World Day for Safety and Health at Work

On April 28th, we celebrate World Day for Safety and Health at Work, an important occasion to reflect on the importance of creating safe and healthy work environments for everyone.

Around the world, millions of people carry out their work every day, facing risks and challenges that can impact their health and well-being. This day reminds us that workplace safety is not just a legal obligation, but a fundamental right for every worker.

Earth Day 2024

Founded on April 22, 1970 by the initiative of US Senator Gaylord Nelson, Earth Day aims to raise public awareness on issues of eco-sustainability and environmental protection. This day gives us the opportunity to reflect on how we live, on our daily actions, and their consequences on the environment.

This year, the theme of Earth Day is ‘Restoring Our Planet.’ It is an urgent call to action, as we face increasingly pressing environmental challenges such as climate change, loss of biodiversity, pollution, and deforestation.

Together, we can make a difference. Each of us has the power to contribute to the restoration and protection of our precious planet Earth. Let us always remember that our common home is a gift to be preserved for future generations.

Empowering Women and Girls in Science: Celebrating the International Day of Women and Girls in Science

Today, February 11th, we celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science!

It’s a day to honor the incredible contributions of women and girls to the field of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). From groundbreaking discoveries to innovative research, women have played a crucial role in shaping the world of science. However, we still have work to do to ensure equal opportunities for women and girls in STEM. We must continue to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and promote inclusivity in the scientific community. Let’s celebrate the achievements of women and girls in science, while also committing to creating a more diverse and equitable future for all aspiring scientists.

Periodic Turn Table

During a cold day in 1869, Professor Dimitrij Ivanovic Mendeleev began to experiment with the 63 chemical elements known at that time. After a long day of work, he discovered, in a dream, a theory to systematically classify the elements based on atomic number. This is how the modern periodic table was born on February 17th. Nowadays, we celebrate that discovery on February 7th.

World Cancer Day

On the 4th of February will be celebrate the World Cancer Day promoter by Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and sustained by World Health Organization. The WHO actively partners with Member States to bolster national policies and programs, fostering increased awareness, minimizing exposure to cancer risk factors, and ensuring individuals receive essential information and support for embracing healthy lifestyles.

The WHO Global Action Plan for the Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases 2013-2020 serves as a strategic guide to curbing premature mortality from non-communicable diseases by 2025. It specifically targets several key risk factors mentioned above, outlining a comprehensive roadmap for effective prevention and control measures.
